i bought this car (affectionately known as “huey”) in ‘99 with 90,000 original miles on the engine (from a ‘71 fastback). since then i’ve put an additional 25,000 in 4 years. a few months ago, the engine konked out on me. i’m terrible at diagnostics, and i currently have neither the time or the money to figure out what’s wrong and fix him right now, so i’m searching for a good home.
i thought maybe it was a timing problem, but i’m not entirely sure, and i have not done a compression test to see if the problem lies elsewhere. my best guess, though, is that it would take very little to get him up and running. in short, he needs a little TLC that i can’t give him.
the body is in good condition generally. there are surface rust spots, mainly along the rain gutters and the nose, but nothing major. the paint (sky blue) has seen better days but is not unsightly. there’s a minor dent below one of the taillights and the rear bumper need to have one of it’s supports welded. the floor pans are solid and rust-free. i’d rate the body overall at a 7 or 8 out of 10. again, a little work and this could be quite the looker.
beyond the engine and the body, i’ve got a running list of minor items to work on... fix dome light, replace glove box, passenger window won’t open, fix windshield washer, install radio antennae, things like that... let me know if you want a detailed list.
